The Archipelago of Samoa Samoa is a land of natural unspoiled beauty. It is an independent state & consists of two main Islands - Savaii & Upolu. There are also two smaller Islands, the Islands of Apolima & Manono, plus five uninhabited Islands. Savaii is the largest Island of the Samoan archipelago, but the capital of Apia is on the Island of Upolu. Savaii is considered less developed than Upolu. With the majestic Mount Matavanu rising from the middle of the Island, Savaii is dotted by secluded beaches. The eruption of Mount Matavanu in 1905 made the Island of Upolu a more appealing option for many & because of that the Island of Savaii has kept its natural charm.
Fa's Samoa The Fa'a Samoa, or traditional Samoan way, remains a strong force in Samoan life & politics. Despite centuries of European influence, Samoa maintains its historical customs, social systems, and language, which is believed to be the oldest form of Polynesian speech still in existence.
Climate Samoa's climate is tropical. Although it is in the southern hemisphere, because of it's proximity to the equator there is no major seasonal difference such as the summer and winter that occurs in more temperate regions. There is however a rainy and a dry season and a slight difference in temperature associated with these. Another effect of being in the tropics is that the days and nights are of almost equal length, so if you want to get the most out the day you should really be an early riser.
